Watches and Wonders ran in Geneva from 14 to 20 April 2026, with 66 brands at Palexpo. The consensus afterwards was that this was a year of consolidation rather than revolution: most houses refined existing collections instead of opening new ones. That sounds like a quiet year. For anyone buying on the secondary market, it is the opposite.
Audemars Piguet returned
The headline was simply that Audemars Piguet exhibited at all, for the first time in six years. The house used the return to present a concept it called House of Wonders, alongside a small group of pieces presented as Etablisseurs. A brand that had deliberately stepped outside the fair circuit choosing to come back is a signal about how it intends to be seen over the next few years.
Patek Philippe and fifty years of the Nautilus
Patek arrived with its most ambitious lineup in years: around twenty new references. Four of them were limited edition Nautilus pieces marking the collection's fiftieth anniversary. The technical headline was the ref. 6105G-001 Celestial, the first Patek wristwatch to display sunrise and sunset times, shown alongside a wristwatch automaton.
Anniversary editions have a predictable effect on the references that came before them. Attention returns to the whole family, and the earlier Nautilus generations that trade on the open market are the ones most people can actually buy.
Rolex chose restraint
Rolex held off on updating the Land-Dweller, which was in its first full production year after a 2025 debut, and left most of the tool watch range alone. The energy went into dress references and material work tied to the Oyster centennial.
When a house leaves its most in demand steel references untouched for a year, the pre-owned market for those references does not get any looser.
What follows
A consolidation year at the fairs tends to push demand toward what already exists. That is the market we operate in. If a reference discussed above is one you have been waiting on, it is worth a conversation now rather than after the next fair.
